The Malaysia Esports Championship 2020/2021 was the inaugural tournament brought to you by Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, Esports Integrated (ESI), Alhamra Games, and Geek Events. This event featured four popular game titles in Malaysia: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, DOTA2, and FIFA21. MEC 2020/2021 saw over 11,000 registrations and over 1.6 million viewers. It served as a testament to ESI’s ongoing efforts to drive growth and diversity in the local esports community and as a platform to drive the local esports market industry.
A total of 521 teams entered open signups, and they played in a single-elimination match to determine the top performing teams. Top 2 teams were also given the opportunity to advance to the MPL Malaysia Season 9 Qualifier, which was snagged by HomeBois (1st) and Team Caracal (2nd). The top 8 teams also shared a prize pool of RM40,000.
